Online and onsite backup appliance
Choosing server software for hosting an online backup service can be a daunting task
In addition to considering factors such as whether you’ll receive technical support by experienced online backup professionals in (or close to) your own time zone who natively speak your language, there are multiple factors to consider about hardware, software, and maintenance.
Having run a growing and profitable online backup service for more than seven years, utilizing Windows 2003 server with Linux SANs and NASs, we decided to architect and design the WholesaleBackup server to function as an appliance (but with the ability for Linux administrators to tweak and enhance to their heart’s delight). The result is a 100% Linux solution which can run on the simplest of embedded devices to virtual machines to hundreds of load-balanced servers.
We’re interested in partnering with someone who has experience with producing and supporting Linux appliances, such as those based on mini-ATX or Pico-ITX boards, as we believe there are interesting market segments for small dedicated online backup servers in the SMB market.
Please call us and ask for Shawn if you are interested in bringing an onsite backup appliance with your own brand to the market.
